Brad Lowe

Head Coach

Meet Brad. Head coach, second degree black belt and one of the nicest guys you’ll ever meet. He encourages a family-friendly, welcoming environment that trains hard while promoting technique over brute force.

You’ll find him in the club most days and whether he’s teaching or not, he’s always willing to help out. When he’s not on the mat, you’ll likely find him on the coast, fishing or simply embracing life with his fiancé Anita and his family.

That all sounds fairly standard, but, what you might not know is that Brad speaks fluent French and once wrestled with a real-life drop-bear!

Jiu-jitsu style:
Can adapt to rolling with any style or body type, but be warned, if you hear an evil laugh, you’re about to be in a real pickle!

Flaws:
Sometimes plays questionable music at training and won’t stop talking when you’re trying to take his photo.

Why you'll love him:
His easy-going nature and lack of ego makes learning feel collaborative and fun. As they say, if you’re laughing you’re learning…

Kane Brewer

Coach

Meet Kane, bearer of pain. Coach, black belt and our regular no-gi instructor.

At 147kgs*, Kane is one of the more sturdy on the mat. He might look scary, but he’s a big softie at heart, and he’ll welcome you to the club with open arms (don’t step into them, it’s a trap).

He’s a family man and you’ll often find him supporting his kids in their own sporting pursuits, hanging out with his family on the coast, and, you may even find him trail running from time to time.

Want to know a fun fact about Kano? His favourite movie is Notting Hill (told you he was a softie). And if you don’t believe us, just ask his wife.

*Weight is an estimate only.

Jiu-jitsu style:
Floats like a butterfly, stings like a walrus. His jiu-jitsu is as solid as he is.

Flaws:
His pros are our cons when rolling against him.

Why you'll love him:
He knows how to break things down so they’re digestible at any level. With a background in various types of grappling, he has a lot of experience and knowledge that he’s always willing to share.

STU DAVIDSON

COACH

Meet Stu. Lifesaver by day, family man at home and a killer black belt on the mats.

Stu coaches our Monday night junior classes and has proven his child wrangling abilities multiple times over. Jeeez, life saver and child wrangler, he must have all the ladies after him…

When he’s not spending time with his gorgeous wife and kids, Stu’s an outdoorsy kinda bloke, and entertains himself with everything from mountain biking to catching fish with his bare hands – there’s nothing too hardcore for this guy. Fair dinkum.

Jiu-jitsu style:
You won’t see Stu doing berimbolos any time soon. While he knows the technique, he’s all about jiu-jitsu that works on the street. He also pretends he has no idea what he’s doing because he’s too humble to tell you otherwise.

Flaws:
Struggles to embrace the mats without his socks on for 6 months of the year. Yeah, yeah, we know it’s Tasmania, but we’ve got heaters.

Why you'll love him:
He’s super technical with real-life self-defence experience. Somehow, he finds a way to deliver all the details you need in the simplest of ways.
